THE HERO FEATURE
Nothing in it but plant fibre.

Our cap carries two pieces of metal. Every commodity beanie carries 5% spandex — petroleum — plus a polyester brand label and, usually, a plastic pom-pom button. The 100% beanie carries none of it: no clamp, no eyelet, no board, no button, no blend. Cloth, thread, label — that is the entire bill of materials.

It is the one product in the line where every single component biodegrades. The crown closes with four darts converging under a neat hand-tacked join — bound inside in self-fabric bias tape, so the inside photographs as clean as the outside. Even the hang tag is bamboo paperboard, tied with Lyocell thread.

100% plant fibre. Zero metal. Zero dye.
Every fibre is biodegradable — cloth, thread, label, tag. The only bmbū product with no hardware at all. On the care tag, regenerated fibre is labelled 'lyocell', never 'bamboo' — we don't cut corners on claims either.
The Process

From forest to finish.

Four steps, zero plastic — how a bamboo stalk becomes the beanie on your head.

Macro · Raw bamboo pulp
Material · 01

The Fiber

Bamboo, regenerated into Lyocell in a closed-loop system that recovers ~98–99% of its solvent. No petroleum, no plastic hiding in the blend — what sits on your head came out of the ground, rain-fed and pesticide-free.

Petroleum content0%
Macro · Spun yarn
Material · 02

The Yarn

One greige 40/2 Lyocell yarn serves the entire bmbū line — the beanie, the polo, the hoodie, the cap. It wicks sweat faster than cotton and stays soft wash after wash, with no elastane and no plastic core anywhere in the twist.

Elastane0%
Macro · P1 interlock
Material · 03

The Cloth

P1 interlock at ~240 GSM — the master cloth, the same fabric as the polo body. The beanie is cut and sewn from it as a self-lined double-layer tube, so grip comes from pattern and construction, never from spandex. Fit from engineering, not chemistry.

The Finish

Nothing. Every fibre ships greige, in its natural Raw Oatmeal tone — no dye, no bleach, no optical brighteners. Your batch's exact shade is embroidered into the inner label as a cloth lot number: provenance, not defect.

04 / About

One cloth. One plant. Nothing else.

Bamboo — fast-growing, rain-fed, grown without pesticides — broken down into Lyocell in a closed loop that recovers ~98–99% of its solvent. Knitted, cut, sewn — and packed — in Vietnam, in bamboo packaging made there too.

Almost every 'bamboo' beanie on the market is bamboo viscose — the same plant put through a dirtier, open-loop chemical process. Closed-loop Lyocell is the difference bmbū exists to prove, and the beanie is where the promise is purest: the one product in the line where every single component is plant fibre.

No metal, no plastic, no dye, no elastane. The commodity beanie hides all four; ours hides nothing — right down to the lot number embroidered in the label.

This is rung 0 of the ladder — the product that proves the story. When you are finally done with it, decades from now, it goes back to the earth.

05 / The Build

Grip without spandex — or anything else.

Spandex is plastic. Pom-pom buttons are plastic. Fit is engineered instead.

A negative-ease pattern, a double-layer body and a four-layer folded cuff hold your head the way 5% spandex does everywhere else — by construction, not chemistry.

COLOUR

The Greige

Dyeing is the dirtiest, thirstiest step in textiles — so we skip it entirely. No dye effluent, no bleach, no brighteners. Raw Oatmeal is the colour bamboo already is.

06 / Common Questions

FAQ

Is it really 100% plastic-free?

Yes — and metal-free too. The body and inner label are bamboo Lyocell; the sewing and embroidery thread is wood-pulp Lyocell; the hang tag is bamboo paperboard tied with Lyocell thread. No polyester, nylon, acrylic, elastane, foam or plastic anywhere — and no bio-based plastic either. Plants only.

How does it stay on without spandex?

Engineering. The pattern is cut with negative ease — relaxed it measures ~49 cm against 54–61 cm heads, well inside the interlock's comfortable stretch range. The double-layer self-lined body shares the load so it recovers reliably, and the folded cuff stacks four layers of cloth exactly where the beanie grips. Fit from construction, not chemistry.

Is there really no metal at all?

None. The cap carries two pieces of metal; the beanie carries nothing but fibre — no clamp, no eyelet, no board, no pom-pom button. The crown closes with four darts under a neat hand-tacked join. It is the one bmbū product where every single component biodegrades.

Why is it undyed — can I get other colours?

Undyed is the point. Dyeing and finishing is the most polluting, water-hungry step in textiles, so we skip it entirely. Every fibre ships greige in its natural Raw Oatmeal tone — and your batch's exact shade is recorded as a lot number on the inner label. There are no dyed colours, by design.

How does the free key tag work?

Every beanie comes with a bamboo key tag, laser-engraved to order with the first name you enter in the order box — solid bamboo wood on a bamboo-fibre cord, with no metal ring and no plastic. It is engraved in Vietnam and packed into your parcel at the factory. If you leave the name blank, we'll ship it unengraved.

How do I care for it?

The simplest care in the line — there is no board, no hardware, nothing that can't get wet. Cold machine wash on a gentle cycle (or hand wash), do not bleach, do not tumble dry, reshape and dry flat in the shade.

Why does the tag say 'lyocell' and not 'bamboo'?

US labelling rules require regenerated fibre to be named 'lyocell' on the care tag, even when made from bamboo. The cloth is genuinely bamboo Lyocell — we follow the labelling rule to the letter. And the label itself is bamboo fabric, embroidered in Lyocell — not the polyester tag sewn into almost everything else on Earth.

Does it really biodegrade?

Every fibre in it is biodegradable — bamboo Lyocell cloth and label, wood-pulp Lyocell thread, bamboo paperboard tag. There is no hardware to remove and nothing to landfill. As with any textile, how fast it breaks down depends on how it's disposed of — but there is nothing in this beanie that won't.

What is the Founding 100?

The first 100 beanies are individually numbered — 1/100 to 100/100 — embroidered on the back cuff in the same tonal Lyocell thread. Your number is yours alone; units 101 and beyond carry no number.
